For Employers

Get your workforce ready for January 1

Starting January 1, 2027, employers with staff in Illinois or Philadelphia must provide reasonable accommodations for menopause-related conditions. Employees need to know they can ask. Managers need to know how to respond.

The New Rules

What changed

Illinois

The Menopause Equity and Care Act adds menopause-related conditions to the state's pregnancy accommodation protections. Employers must post an updated state notice and update their handbooks.

Philadelphia

Menstruation, perimenopause and menopause become protected under the city's Fair Practices Ordinance, and employers must provide reasonable accommodations when symptoms substantially interfere with work. It applies to employers of any size with staff in the city.
